The Divide: A World Without Secularism
A World Without Secularism is a cooperative and immersive digital escape game developed by MindQuest Games to raise awareness of the issues surrounding secularism through a playful and narrative approach. The game plunges participants into a dystopian France in 2150, divided into two extreme societies: in one, religion is mandatory; in the other, all beliefs are forbidden.
The players, divided into two teams, must cooperate to save characters persecuted for disobeying the ideological rules imposed by their society. To progress, they must solve puzzles, find forbidden texts, and manipulate content related to the history of secularism, the 1905 law, parliamentary debates, and the key figures who contributed to the development of the principle of secularism in France.
Designed for high school students, teaching teams and citizen mediation actions, the game combines Escape Game, mini-games, interactive investigation and dystopian storytelling to promote reflection, critical thinking, cooperation and concrete understanding of the freedoms linked to the principle of secularism.
The project was notably awarded the 2022 Secularism Prize and is now listed among the recommended educational tools for raising awareness of secularism.
